Download
  1. From the Clients target file server, go to http://www.patroldog.com
  2. Download the PatrolDog Client from the Site (it is approximately 2 megs in size). Save it to any temporary directory that you would like.
  3. When download has completed, open the file. The Setup Wizard will run and install PawPrint (Patroldog) on the server. The target directory is always C:\PDLOG and cannot be changed. The installation and running of Patroldog should never exceed 15 megs of total disk space.
  4. PawPrint will then launch automatically. This phase of the installation and setup is the most important. You will be prompted for a Client ID. Please Enter the Client ID that was supplied by TAB Technical Support. DO NOT make one up! You will also be asked to name your server. By default, the actual PC name has been filled in for you. If this is OK, leave it. If not, change it to something more meaningful that you will recognize when TAB support calls you with any issues. Avoid spaces and special characters in the name field
  5. Click on the "Save" button to save your changes. The basic functionality of PatrolDog is complete.

If your file server is running mirrored or RAID-5 configurations and you are running Windows 2000, you will want to download the DiskPart (DiskPartition) program from Microsoft. Patroldog will use this program if it is installed in the C:\PDLOG directory (Be sure to change the install directory as you download the software) to analyze the server disk configuration. If you are running Windows 2003 or WIndows XP, this utility is automatically available and will be used. To install DiskPart, follow this link Microsoft DiskPart.

Schedule - Windows NT 4.0
You can run the SETUPAT.BAT file located in the C:\PDLOG directory. This will establish approximately 12 jobs in the NT Scheduler to perform the PatrolDog tasks. You may need to access each job and reset security to match the User/Admin permissions on the server.

Schedule - Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003
The Installer will have automatically added 1 Job to the %SYSDIR% \TASKS directory. You will need to access this job and reset the "Security/Run As" permissions to match the permissions on the server.

If for some reason the task is NOT added, please use the screen shots provided here as a guideline for manually setting up the task.

In all cases above, it is strongly recommended that once you have received the "OK" from TAB Technical Support on the initial log submissions, that you run the job from within the task scheduler (right click the job, select "Run") to know that they are working properly. Most of the problems on PatrolDog setup involve improper security permission on running jobs.
